5 Self-Care Tips for Busy Moms

To help busy moms find balance and prioritize self-care, we reached out to professionals from various fields for their best advice. From connecting with mom friends to creating a personal sanctuary, here are the top 5 tips shared by experts like founders, wellness facilitators, and mental health consultants.

Connect with Mom Friends

I have a very close-knit group of mom friends who I met through my kids. Our children have grown up together since they were babies, so we have tons of stories and memories together. We’ll occasionally get together for lunch while the kids are in school. This is our time to vent, laugh, and keep each other up to date on our lives. Because our kids’ activities and sports have taken us all in different directions, this is about the only way we can all get together at once.

Being a solopreneur mom that works from home, this is also about the only adult interaction I get, so it helps me stay connected with others and feel less isolated. After work most days during the school year, we’re balancing a spectrum of hobbies and sports, so I treasure these lunch hours where I can cut loose and focus on me.

Prioritize Sleep

Both our physical and mental health depends on getting adequate sleep. It lowers stress, improves memory, strengthens the immune system, and is good for the heart. On the other side, a lack of sleep over a long period of time can harm cognitive ability and raise the danger of life-threatening conditions including diabetes and heart disease.
It may seem impossible for working mothers to get enough sleep, but it’s important to prioritize it. Moms who get enough sleep often feel more centered, energized, and prepared to tackle the challenges of parenting.

Practice Mindfulness Daily

As a busy mom who loves her family and loves to travel, self-care can often be last on the to-do list. However, ne self-care tip that has become a game changer for me is carving out a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness.
Whether it be through meditation or simply taking a few deep breaths in the morning, this intentional time has allowed me to center myself and start my day wit a clear mind.
Taking ar of yourself is crucial to being the best version of yourself for your family. And mindfulness has ee a small but impactful way for me to prioritize my own well-being amidst the chaos of busy motherhood. The best part – it’s easy to do at home or wherever the next trip takes me.

Embrace Stillness and Breathing

Set aside five minutes a day within your schedule to just be still and breathe. Breathing helps to calm the mind, creates self-focus, replenishes the body with oxygenated blood, and relieves tension. Being still helps turn one’s attention inward. Both together aid one’s well-being by reducing the stress to a “rest and digest” state.

Create a Personal Sanctuary

In the captivating dance of motherhood, it’s essential to find moments of serenity for your own well-being. An uncommon yet deeply impactful self-care tip is to create a small, personal sanctuary within your home.
This sacred space, dedicated solely to you, serves as a haven for rest, reflection, and rejuvenation. Fill it with items that evoke feelings of peace and tranquility, such as soft lighting, calming scents, and cherished mementos. Retreat to this sanctuary whenever you feel overwhelmed or simply need a moment to yourself.
